Just something to consider in the discussion. The word used euphemistically for the genital area is "regel" - a foot. The word used in Ruth 3 is "margelah" which has the meaning - a footpiece, at the foot, or the foot itself. It is compared to "meraashah" which has the meaning - a headpiece, at the head, or a head-rest (or pillow). The word "margelah" is used only in Ruth 3 and in Daniel 10:6. The word used of Saul in the cave is "regel" - a word used 245 times in the OT, having several meanings and must be understood in the context of its use. Vine's Expository Dictionary is a good source for the various usages of the word "regel" - foot. However, it has no entry for "margelah" which is only used 5 times in the OT (4 in Ruth 3 and 1 in Daniel). How "margelah" relates to the "many scholas" and the "frequent" use of "feet" as a euphamism for genitalia, I'm not sure. I suspect they are refering to the "regel" word for feet as that word is found in many Semitic languages. Okay, carry on.... |

Great news everybody!!!!! Hyveth Williams is coming to the Hope Channel starting Sunday, September 3. My devout SDA mother-in-law, age 83, is visiting from British Columbia. (My wife is gone tonight taking a graduate course.) So, I am watching the Hope Channel with my m-i-l. Just saw the ad. Interestingly, the clips they show of her depict her dressed modestly. |
