Then if it is a tool to get people to study why mention any money? It is stupid, you could do the exact same thing with many Christian doctrines, the trinity, baptism by immersion, soul sleep the list could go on. Depending on the rules one could set up no win contests of many things. Whether they were true or not. Paul took Timothy to be Circumcised does that mean it is to continue for all time, Paul celebrated Jewish festivals also, are we to do that today also. The study of the bible is far more than did apostles do it or not. Clearly we do not have a complete account of what the NT church did or did not do in many areas. Hubb could do a similar contest with you Tom, prove that the NT church did not give tithe. You could say that it is not possible to prove a negative, but why does that matter, he could argue he is just trying to get people to study more. |

Hubert F. Sturges said on Friday, February 7, 2003: "So you admit that the contest is just for "humor, amusement, and excitement". It is not serious at all!!" There is much more to it then that. It is also very serious, especially for those who are confronted with the overwhelming evidence that their precious doctrine about NT Tithe is nothing but Jewish and Catholic delusion, heresy, and apostasy. But for those who understand New Covenant theology; there is indeed a funny side to this exercise as the sincerely confused stumble around like blind men and discover that they have been living in a ditch all these years. So there IS an amusement factor to this theological reality game. Hubb said: "Seriously, Tom, do you understand the concept of "escrow"? That is a legal maneuver whereby a third party, often a Title Company, holds the money or assets of a person or party. When certain conditions are met, certain papers signed, the money is then turned over to the person or party who is intended to get it." This is a theological discussion; not a real estate transaction. Those that are serious about the Word do not need a monetary inducement to deal with truth. I suggest that you either stop inventing excuses about why you cannot defend NT Tithing, or just admit the truth that there is no such doctrine existent in the apostolic church. Hubb said: "In such a situation, One person puts the money into escrow, until the deed is signed and the property turned over, then the other person is paid the money. If you followed that pattern, I would NEVER have control of the money, unless or until I met the challenge." Sorry, Hubb, but there is no reason to change the rules for you or to pretend that you, or anybody else for that matter, can prove the impossible. This is the point. No human on earth can show any apostolic evidence for NT Tithe. You need to stop playing games with the facts and admit the obvious. Ron Corson said on Friday, February 7, 2003: "Then if it is a tool to get people to study why mention any money?" Why do all types of companies offer prizes, coupons, and other inducements? In order to drum up attention for this product or that service, prizes are routinely offered as part of the marketing strategy. In fact, the Historic Adventists (Millerites) were the first to use modern marketing techniques. They were experts at this game as they proudly erected the largest Circus Tent in North American to proclaim their controversial eschatology. People would flock to this gigantic spectacle from miles around and fill the large tent to capacity. The SDA's also used such marketing gimmicks as they too offered cash prizes ($500) in their evangelistic services to anyone who could prove that Sunday was the Sabbath. ($500 pre-civil war dollars is probabbly the equivilant of $100K today.) So this tithe contest represents not only the American way of marketing, but it is also correctly reflects the evangelistic traditions that are found within the Adventist Apocalyptic. Ron said: "It is stupid, you could do the exact same thing with many Christian doctrines, the trinity, baptism by immersion, soul sleep the list could go on. Depending on the rules one could set up no win contests of many things. Whether they were true or not." While, as you say, you could set up all kinds of contests, only a few would generate much interest and activity. However, because ONLY the SDA's operate their entire organizational system based upon the Old Covenant tithe doctrine, this specific contest is stunning in its ramifications; proving to all that the entire modern SDA church is operated upon false, anti-Gospel doctrine. Such a conclusion is shocking for Adventists; and this tithe contest is an excellent method to expose this unbelievable fact that damns the SDA Hierarchy to hell and screams for Reform. So while you may think the tithe contest stupid, I think it is a great tool to publicly uncover how really stupid and corrupt the SDA church has become. It is a game that all SDA's should learn to play! Ron said: "Paul took Timothy to be Circumcised does that mean it is to continue for all time, Paul celebrated Jewish festivals also, are we to do that today also. The study of the bible is far more than did apostles do it or not. Clearly we do not have a complete account of what the NT church did or did not do in many areas." Are you saying that you want to enter the contest and play the game? Are you saying that the apostolic church practiced tithing? All those who want to defend NT Tithe step forward, don't be shy. Go for it! Ron said: "Hubb could do a similar contest with you Tom, prove that the NT church did not give tithe. You could say that it is not possible to prove a negative, but why does that matter; he could argue he is just trying to get people to study more." Those that are familiar with the NT have sufficient evidence to prove that the NT church did not, and could not, have practiced Old Covenant Tithing. So if Hubb wants to offer me $100K to make that point, I will be happy to meet that challenge and I will also be happy to get the lawyers involved so that I can claim the prize. (But only after I have answered the question.) Tom |
